Lateralize Records is proud to announce the release of Guilty (Chamber Remix), the new single from Jo Harrop and Jamie McCredie’s critically acclaimed album, Weathering The Storm.
Featuring a stunning string quartet arrangement which was written by Jamie McCredie, the new version of the song received a rapturous reception when it was unveiled at Jo Harrop’s recent headline performances at both Ronnie Scott’s and Cadogan Hall. As a result, Harrop and McCredie headed into Gorilla Studios in London with the Debs White String Quartet and recorded this breathtakingly beautiful re-imagined version of the song, which was originally written by Randy Newman for his 1974 Good Old Boys album.
Although Guilty was never released as a single, it soon became the most streamed song from the Weathering The Storm album after numerous plays from Jo Whiley (BBC Radio 2) and Iggy Pop on his BBC 6 Music show. The Guardian dubbed it ‘a little gem of an album: simple, modest and perfect,’ whilst The Mirror called Harrop ‘one of the hottest jazz singers in the UK.’
She recently received a slew of glowing reviews for her debut solo album, The Heart Wants. Recorded with producers Hannah Vasanth (who has worked with everyone from Stormzy to JP Cooper) and Jamie McCredie alongside an illustrious guest list of world class musicians including Troy Miller, Christian McBride and Jason Rebello, The Heart Wants is a beautifully bruised, intimate album about love, life and loss.
It’s no surprise that Jo Harrop has been nominated for both Vocalist Of The Year and Album Of The Year in the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Awards, whilst The Heart Wants is currently riding high in the US Jazz Albums Chart.
A perfect slice of celestial chamber pop, Guilty will no doubt come as something of a surprise to anyone who thought Jo Harrop was only capable of singing jazz ballads.
Guilty (Chamber Remix) will be released on 1st July 2022 through Lateralize Records.
