Lateralize Records are excited to announce the release of a newly recorded version of I Think You’d Better Go, one of the standout tracks on Jo Harrop’s acclaimed The Heart Wants album.
Having received rapturous reviews everywhere from the Times to the Guardian, The Heart Wants was made Jazz Album Of The Year in both the Daily Mail and the Mirror, played extensively on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM and reached the upper echelons of the US Jazz Albums Charts.
Recorded in London’s Gorilla Studios with producer Jamie McCredie and a string quartet, I Think You’d Better Go is a bittersweet love song about temptation and desire.
“The story brings together two souls caught at the right place and the wrong time, both longing for something that can never be,” Jo Harrop explains. “I like the fact that the story doesn’t resolve, which leaves the listener to decide the fate of their relationship. It’s a song that a lot of people may be able to relate to. It’s a duet between voice and guitar dancing tenderly together with the strings as the story unfolds and the pure emotion pours out of every note.”
In December 2022, Jo Harrop released When Winter Turns To Spring - her first studio set with virtuoso pianist, Paul Edis – which was recently named Album Of The Year at the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Seamlessly combining Bacharach-esq chamber pop and sophisticated jazz, When Winter Turns To Spring is a perfect blend of originals and timeless perennials framed by Paul Edis’ elegant arrangements.
Jo Harrop has just returned from Los Angeles, where she has been recording her hugely anticipated forthcoming album at The Village Studios with legendary producer, Larry Klein, best known for his award-winning work with a long list of iconic artists that includes Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux and Herbie Hancock.
With an achingly beautiful chocolate and cream voice that sends a shiver down your spine every time you hear her sing, it’s no surprise that Jo Harrop has received a raft of rave reviews and attracted a host of influential fans since she first burst into the spotlight a few short years ago. “She is a very fine jazz singer,” Iggy Pop recently gushed. “When she sings, she moves me.”
